Superstar's clarification yesterday evening

Superstar never said sorry, he only clarified and requested..

Hi friends,

I saw the compete talk of superstar in TV9 at 11:30pm on 31st July 2008. This is not an apology just a clarification.

Pls watch it carefully.

This is what superstar says " I had recently written a letter to KFC chief jayamala regarding smooth release of kuselan in karnataka since he had not committed any mistake. Still there are lots of groups in karnataka who are against it.
All i would like to tell is, i did not refer the word kick to all kannada people. I only said to those who create unnecessary trouble for both states. I will say one thing very clearly this will not be repeated again. From next time onwards
i will be careful in what i speak in future and kannada people have taught me a big lesson regarding this. People do make mistakes.

I once again say this my talk was not intended to hurt anyone and i ask for smooth release of kuselan in this state.
I refer to all groups who are protesting that i know you people are fighting for your state people and i will also lend my support to you'll to fight rowdism. I will never bow down to bad people and will stand by good people at any cost.
The protest conducted by tamil fim industry was for showing our grief towards people targetting cinema and cinema halls and hurting the people connected with tamil cinema industry. Do not mix politics with films. I referred to these people
about kicking and if you'll think its for the whole state i cannot do anything.

This clarifications has been taken as apology by karnataka people and they are now happy about it.
Now they have given a green signal for the movie to run smoothly.
All multiplexes have opened bookings since then.

All channels have taken this bit of news and showing as flash news to increase their viewership.

As director ameer said, These heartless media and jealous guys need superstar to survive for good and bad.

If not for superstar who the hell knew about KRV and other kannada activits group. Have they ever made news doing good deeds? Never.

The funny part is after this bit of talk of superstar in TV9, They started a special news on kuselan records and worldwide popularity of superstar and the record created in advance booking etc etc.

This shows no matter what people try to do they cannot resist this star's achievements.

Is this a apology, I dont think so. This is just a request to kannada people and not even to kannada activists.
This shows how much he feels for tamilians and his fans in karnataka. If he was not bothered he could have just left this this thing alone. he didnt want the karnataka tamilians to be in trouble and cared for them.

Lets not get upset about this and say things as we like. We cant judge our boss.

if we are here today as an army thats because of superstar. Pls dont pass any comments on this great man.

As fans we dont need to do that. As already the enemy camps have started.

Long live Superstar!

Lets celebrate Kuselan 50days,100days,175days and more.

Allow me to release Kuselan in K'taka, says Rajini

New Delhi: Superstar Rajinikant, who was caught in the crossfire between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, over his ‘anti-Kannadiga’ statements has apologised and appealed to the people of Karnataka to allow the release of his latest film Kuselan.

Speaking to Kannada channels, Rajinikant said, “This incident has taught me a lesson. I shall never commit such a mistake again. Please allow the release of Kuselan in Karnataka."

"The people who are opposing me are also children of Karnataka. They are doing it for their state. Please, please forget the past and whatever I have said. Allow me to release my film. I am ready to help Kannadigas also,” the actor added.

Activists had earlier vowed to block the release of the actor’s forthcoming film in Karnataka, saying the Tamil superstar should issue a public apology for his ‘anti-Kannadiga’ statements.

The threat had come days after the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) had given its nod for the film’s release in the state. Kuselan will be released on Friday.

Kannada organisations led by Karnataka Rakshana Vedike had demanded a public apology from Rajinikant for making strong remarks against them and the state during the Hogenakal agitation.

Protestors from the Karnataka Rakshana Vedike had shouted slogans against Rajinikant at Bangalore theatres and three prominent theaters in the state had even declared that they would not screen the film.

Rajinikant had even sent a regret letter in Kannada, but the activists wanted a public apology from him. However, this apology may create problems for him in Tamil Nadu.

Meanwhile, tickets for Kuselan's screening on Friday are already sold out.

The Karnataka Film Chambers also held a meeting on Thursday to sort the issue.

Rajini’s troubled past with Karnataka

On Monday, Rajinikant had written a letter to KFCC president and actress Jayamala to ensure that his film got a release in Karnataka on August 1, along with its launch in Tamil Nadu. He had clarified that he had never intended to hurt the sentiments of Kannadigas.

Terming the superstar’s letter just a publicity stunt, former legislators Vatal Nagaraj and Prabhakara Reddy at a press conference had asked Rajinikant to come out with a public apology.

Some Kannada organisations had been demanding that Kuselan be released in the state only after a seven-week moratorium as Rajinikant had allegedly hurt the sentiments of Kannadigas by supporting Tamil Nadu on a row over a drinking water project in Hogenekkal, on the border between the two states.

The superstar had joined the Tamil film fraternity in a daylong protest fast in April against Karnataka’s objections to the Rs13.3-billion Hogenekkal project that is expected to benefit about three million people in two Tamil Nadu districts.

Karnataka is opposed to the project, saying its share of the Cauvery river waters will be affected.

The actor, in his letter to Jayamala, had stressed that he had never intended to hurt the feelings of Kannadigas by speaking at the rally. He also added that he did not want his fans in Krantaka to miss out on his film

Rajini apologises to Kannadigas for remarks over Hogenakkal

Friends,
Superstar has tendered apology for making remarks over hogenakkal issue. This has come for all the fans, and safety of tamilians in karnataka. This is nothing to be ashamed of since we all know how difficult it is to say sorry.

We salute this great man's heart and we will back superstar in whatever he does.

Long Live Superstar!

Below is the news.

Hyderabad: Tamil superstar Rajinikanth on Thursday apologised to the people of Karnataka for his recent comments against them on the Hogenakkal issue ahead of the release of his new film Kuselan on Friday.

Earlier in the day, pro-Kannada activists demanded an unconditional apology from the actor for "hurting the sentiments of Kannadigas" on the Hogenakkal issue, and threatened of "violent protests" in Karnataka if the Tamil superstar's latest film is released on Friday.

Pyramid Saimira releases KUSELAN: A tribute to the spirit of Friendship. The movie hits the screens on 1st August, 2008

Pyramid Saimira is all geared up to release the most awaited movie of the year, KUSELAN, over the Friendship's day weekend. It is said that people come into our lives for reasons, seasons or lifetimes. While some people waltz into our lives for relatively short durations and see us through possible difficult times, we all turn to our friends - those who are meant to be with us for lifetimes - in times of true need. A relationship that has stood strongly and unflinchingly against tests of time, it is friendship that often makes the world a better place for us to live in.

And there can be no finer tribute to this beautiful relationship that exists amongst millions of people across the world, than the release of superstar Rajini Kanth's much-awaited film KUSELAN, Directed by P. Vasu, the movie highlights the importance of friendship in every individual's life. The movie has an impressive cast, including Pasupathy, Nayantara, Meena and Vadivelu, skillfully essaying their respective roles along with the Superstar. The lilting soundtrack of the film has been composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar. This film is produced bi-lingually in Tamil & Telugu. The Tamil version is a joint production of M/s Kavithalaya & Seven Arts Films while the Telugu version titled KATAHNAYAKUDU is a joint production of Vyjayanthi Movies / Seven Arts Films.

In the movie, Rajini Kanth plays the role of a superstar while Pasupathy plays the role of his friend, a barber. Meena plays the role of Pasupathy's wife while Nayantara stars opposite Rajini Kanth. Based on friendship and noble values, the movie traces how Rajini Kanth is too busy with his career to spend any time with his friend. The storyline has been developed sensitively and realistically portrays the situations that are likely to arise between any set of friends. Rajini Kanth adds his own magical touch to the role, which is bound to enable all viewers to identify with the characters of the film. Pyramid Saimira will release the film across 900 screens in India, UAE, Australia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, New Zealand, Europe, Canada, China and USA.

Super start Rajni's films are always about celebration/ joy / participation/ clean family viewing and of course, great fans. Last year we partly distributed / exhibited SIVAJI - super star film produced by AVM and this year we have the world copyrights on all modes for this great film which is likely to be seen by more than 10 million people in next 60 days (we will have more than 500000 seating capacity per show for this film). This is easily the most-awaited film of the year and like SIVAJI, may become Indian film's highest grosser this year. The fact that Rajini Kanth plays a true role is bound to excite the audiences, as this will give them insights into the real Superstar. The audiences also look forward to his movies, because they know that the Superstar's movies will carry a message on life itself, which they can imbibe as he gives maximum one film a year!''

So for all us, who want to celebrate Friendship Day this year, in a truly meaningful way, there can be no better way than watching the Superstar in KUSELAN.

Testing time for Kuselan in Bangalore

Friends,

Even though the Kananda Film Chamber has given a clean chit for release of Superstar's Kuselan in Karnataka. The KRV group seems to be desperate now. They are the only group in karnataka who are protesting. Vattal nagaraj who heads this group lost his deposite in the election. This group doesnt have support of their own state people. Now they are desperate to make an impact. The result they are using their group people and goondas to scare the theatre owners. This time its not for kannada pride but for money. What a shame!

Above article suggests their motive and also one of our senior member in rajini fans group had a live view of the same and also i have posted his write up as well.

Truth will triumph always!

Meantime the ads in papers regarding the release and theatres listings dont seem to stop. The show will start.

Report by Arun, Bangalore
Friends,

Though KFCC has cleared the release of Thalaivar's Kuselan in
Karnataka from Friday, 1st August, 2008, the trouble-makers in
Kannada fanatical outfits have started to show their real faces.

Today (30th July) morning, when Bangalore's Cauvery theatre was
about to start advance booking for Kuselan, some Kannada fanatics
entered the premises and started creating commotion in the crowds
waiting for the reservations to start. They were demanding the
immediate stopping of ticket issue by theatre management & even
after police intervened they did not allow the theatre people to
issue the tickets. Because of this commotion, many people in the
crowd had to leave fearing for their safety. Some TV channel has
also taken the pictures & showing it in their news programme about
the commotion.

The bottom-line is: these so-called Kannada fanatics were arguing
that at the time of Sivaji release we were called by KFCC and paid
money but no such thing happened this time. So, it is NOT for
Kannada or pride of Kannadigas these rowdies are fighting for. Its
only Money for which they are creating such a ruckus.

As of now, Cauvery has NOT started advance booking. Hopefully, the
Govt. will provide protection to the public in order to make them
watch the movie comfortably without any fear.

Another report

It seems the different Kannada fanatics groups are comepting with
one another to collect "maximum maamool" from Bangalore theatres -
thanks to Thalaivar's Kuselan.

If it was Vattal Nagaraj & his gang of rowdies who terrorised
Cauvery Theatre today morning, it was Narayana Gowda & his gang who
stormed the famous Garuda Mall today afternoon wherein Inox
Multiplex is located and demanded "their share of maamool" from Inox
owners. Fearing trouble, Inox has not yet started advance booking.

The talk going on here is, if suitcase(s) is/are passed on to these
rowdies in time today so that there are no further troubles, Cauvery
may start advance booking from 6 PM today evening itself.
Otherwise, it will commence only tomorrow. I think all multiplexes
in Bangalore have decided to wait till tomorrow before starting
advance booking.

Will keep the forum posted if I get to know any further developments
on Kuselan's starting troubles in Bangalore.

Venkat Prabhu's second directorial venture 'Saroja' has been shot simultaneously in Telugu as well and the music album for the Telugu version was released by superstar Rajinikanth recently at his residence.

Music for the Tamil version was released earlier at a glittering ceremony at the Chennai Trade Center in which A. R. Rahman and Yuvan Shankar Raja were seen on the same dais.

Yuvan Shankar Raja's music album for 'Saroja' is selling like hot cakes with its youthful and thumping style of music. Incidentally the young music composer is currently on a one man mission with the re-recording for the film. Although orchestrated music compositions featuring violins and the like have been recorded, accompanying BGMs are incorporated on a layer–basis and the work reportedly is being done only by the music director all alone, probably for precise perfection.

After the audio release Venkat Prabhu had a chat with the superstar which was amalgamated with professional as well as personal talk. Rajinikanth expressed his admiration for Venkat Prabhu's wonderful handling of 'Chennai 600028' and wished the director all the best with his future projects.

Rajinikanth also expressed his happiness at Venkat Prabhu's association with his daughter's production house Ocher Studios for a film which will be the director's next venture.

'Talking to the superstar has made me a very confident man and I am looking forward to bring on this confidence on my work' says an elated Venkat Prabhu'.

The superstar had also spoken to Venakat Prabhu about the merits of meditation.

'Robot' to kick start in the US on August 15

The much-awaited film, ‘Robot’, starring Rajinikanth and directed by Shankar, will kick off in USA. According to reports, the movie touted to be the costliest film to be made in Tamil Cinema and will begin with a song sequence featuring Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai.

'Kuselan' fever is very ripe in the US and is releasing amidst a lot of hype with cut-outs and posters of Rajinikanth all over. ‘Robot’ will be made in Tamil, Hindi and Telugu simultaneously. Plans are on to commence shooting from 15th August.

'Kuselan' is ready to hit the screens on the 1st of August, while Rajinikanth's animation movie 'Sultan - The Warrior', directed by his daughter Soundarya will hit the screens in April 2009.

Fans of Rajinikanth are in a joyous mood for they would see their favorite actor on screen over and over.

Nayantara Flags Off 'Kuselan' Bus

IndiaGlitz - Events - Nayantara Flags Off 'Kuselan' Bus

Superstar gets ready to shoot Robot

CHENNAI: Tamil superstar Rajnikant is likely to leave for the US shortly to join the US-based production team of his Rs.1.5 billion (approximately $35.5 million) venture Robot, said publicists. Robot will be a sci-fi movie and stars Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai in the female lead. She has already reported for the photo-shoot schedule. It is being directed by Shankar whose last offering with Rajnikant Sivaji - The Boss broke all box-office records, publicists added.

The movie will be simultaneously produced in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and two other Indian languages besides being later dubbed into English, Japanese and Malay. After Rajnikant agrees to the final script, shooting will commence from August 15.

The extravaganza is being jointly produced by London-based Ayngaran International and Eros Entertainment, said a statement.

While Rajnikant's Kuselan is schedule for July 31 release, he has almost completed his daughter Saundarya's Ocher Studios' Rs.2 billion (approximately $50 million) animated production which has live shots of the superstar.

Badshah (Shah Rukk Khan) is afraid of the Emperor (Superstar Rajini)!

Rajnikant starrer Kuselan is all set to release world over on August 1st. Looking at the unexpectedly crazy response Rajni’s last film Sivaji got at the box office all over India even from non-Tamil speaking audience, the makers of Kuselan had decided upon releasing Kuselan in its Hindi dubbed version simultaneously too. But now it seems like the Badshah is afraid of the Emperor!

Both Kuselan and Shah Rukh Khan produced and starring Billoo Barber directed by Priyadarshan are remakes of Malayalam hit film, Katha Parayumbol which had Mammootty in the lead. The story lines of both are exactly the same to that of the original. Both the Hindi and Tamil remakes feature a song where in the lead stars (Ranji and SRK) appear in 20 various looks. If Kuselan releases in Hindi first, there will be no novelty left for Billoo Barber at all amongst the audiences.

A source tells us, “While SRK was confident that he would be able to wrap up his film before Rajnikant’s Tamil version he was in for a not so pleasant surprise when he came to know that the Rajni film is not only over but is due for a release in August and that too with its Hindi dubbed version. SRK had already planned a grand Diwali release for his film. But now with the Rajni film coming up much before Diwali he was in for a shock. He then used all his good relations with Rajni (they had met last in Delhi for a news channel’s award show) and called him up requesting him to postpone the release of his Hindi version. Rajni obliged and now the film shall only release in Tamil and Telugu all over the world. The Hindi dubbed version will definately release too but post Diwali.”

Rajni’s Sivaji (2007) is being dubbed in Hindi and is all set for a September end release. The makers of Sivaji have even shot a song with Rajni where he will imitate Bollywood legendary yesteryears heroes. (SAMPURN)

Rajnikanth's 'Kuselan' gets nod for Karnataka release

Forthcoming Rajnikanth-starrer "Kuselan" has finally got the go ahead for its simultaneous release in Karnataka on Aug 1, though many groups were against it, alleging that the Tamil superstar had made "anti-Kannadiga" statements.

The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC), while giving the green signal, advised the film's distributor in the state to release "Kuselan" with only 10 prints and in 13 theatres in Bangalore.

Some Kannada organisations had been demanding that "Kuselan" be released in the state only after a seven-week moratorium as Rajnikanth had hurt the sentiments of Kannadigas by supporting Tamil Nadu on a row over a drinking water project in Hogenekkal, on the border between the two states.

The superstar had joined the Tamil film industry in a daylong protest fast in April against Karnataka's objections to the Rs.13.3 billion Hogenekkal project that is expected to benefit about three million people in two Tamil Nadu districts. Karnataka is opposed to the project, saying its share of the Cauvery river waters will be affected.

During the protest, Rajnikanth had apparently blamed Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa for the problem, angering many Kannada activists.

But Kannada actress Jayamala, who is also KFCC chief, said that the issue should not be linked to the release of "Kuselan", specially since producer K. Balachander was a respected film personality who had contributed to Kannada cinema as well.

"One of our own members is releasing the film, then how can we stop the release? What we have advised is that he release the film following all the restrictions about prints and the number of theatres it can be shown in," said Jayamala.

Directed by P. Vasu, "Kuselan" is a remake of Malayalam hit "Katha Parayumbol" starring Mammooty. It is said to have been made at a cost of Rs.600 million and also stars actresses Nayanthara and Meena. The storyline is about a film star helping an old acquaintance.

According to industry sources, late Kannada actor Raj Kumar will also be shown three times during a song in the movie. The song is apparently about the growth of cinema in south India.

Many of Rajnikanth's friends in the Kannada film industry are reportedly working overtime to ensure the movie has a smooth release in the state.

Niranjan, the film's distributor in Karnataka, said: "Rajni sir has ensured that the contribution of the Kannada film industry to the film world is to be given adequate importance in a song. K. Balachandar has produced and directed many films, while P. Vasu has directed films of Kannada film legends like Raj Kumar and Vishnuvardhan. We are sure that Kannada film fans will realise this."

Though Pyramid Saimira has got the distribution rights of the film throughout the country, the rights in Karnataka have been obtained by Niranjan for over Rs.20 million, industry sources said.

Rajini suggests Billa-II

Looks like Soundarya Rajinikanth's Ocher Studios is on a roll for producing movies. In less than a week of announcing plans to produce a Tamil movie in collaboration with Warner Bros India, Soundarya is on the verge of announcing her plans for Billa-II, if sources are to be believed.

And the superstar himself seems to have suggested the plans after evidently being impressed with the outcome of the Vishnuvardhan-directed Billa. Soundarya was quoted as saying to a tabloid that the project would commence in mid-2009. No other details in this regard are available at the moment.

Meanwhile, the Venkat Prabhu project, produced by Ochar Studios, has been named as Goa.

'Rajnikanth is the only superstar' says actor Dhanush

Indo Asian News Service

Tamil film star Dhanush on Thursday urged his fans not to call him a "junior superstar" as the only superstar in the industry was his father-in-law and actor Rajnikanth.

"Do not call me 'Ilaya (junior) superstar' because there is only one and that is my father-in-law Rajnikanth," Dhanush said on the eve of his 30th birthday.

"I have now begun paying attention to my fans more because I have understood that it is they who convert an average film into a hit," the actor said after inaugurating a blood donation camp with 200 of his fans.

After a string of flops, Dhanush's career was resurrected with the release of his last film Pollathavan (The terrible one), which was a blockbuster and was also the title of an earlier film starring Rajnikanth made in 1980.

The next venture starring Dhanush also has a name similar to another Rajnikanth hit Padikkathavan (Illiterate) made in 1985.

Starring Vadivelu, Tamanna and Suman, Padikkathavan is scheduled for release in September 2008.

Dhanush is married to superstar Rajnikanth's elder daughter Aishwarya.

Rajini’s new heroine in Sultan is Vijayalakshmi

The uncertainty over the female lead in Soundarya Rajinikanth’s animation flick Sultan – The Warrior has ended. Ileana, for reasons best known to her, is out of the film and Vijayalakshmi bagged the role in the end. The shooting started recently in Hyderabad and Vijayalakshmi was on the sets. The actress was busy shooting for Adhe Idam Adhe Neram

when she received the coveted call from Ocher Studios. Vijayalakshmi said that she was very nervous at Rajini’s presence but the superstar made her comfortable by his kind words. She said that Rajini applauded her for selecting good films such as Chennai 28 and Anjathe and advised her to choose such films in future too. Scenes involving Rajini and Vijayalakshmi were shot yesterday by Soundarya Rajinikanth in Hyderabad.

Rajinikanth ‘is a phenomenon’

Express News Service

TECHNICALLY speaking, the cinematographer is the first person to see a movie in the angle it is meant to be shown to the audience. And if that first viewer of the movie happens to be a big fan of the actor he’s capturing, the Superstar in this case, imagine the glee that will be in the eyes of that cinematographer. But to be honest, there’s no such glee in cinematographer Arvind Krishna, despite him being a self proclaimed Rajini fan. (Nobody escapes Rajini-ism in their childhood, he says, matter-of-factly).

If there’s anything to show that he worked for 'Kuselan', it’s a slight limp of an injured right leg, one that he hurt in the last lap of shooting for the movie, shot as a bilingual in a remarkable three months. Shooting has been tiresome, no doubt, and post-production work kept him busy till the moment I met him, in Prasad Lab, on Wednesday evening. "'Kuselan' has been a fun riot, my sixth movie actually," he explains.

He was introduced as an actor (The Danush of Operation Danush in 'Kurudhipunal') and is now working on a movie in which a song is said to honour the work of technicians ('Cinema Cinema').

Ask him about when he appears in the movie (All technicians, including Soundarya Rajinikanth who has done the special effects, will be present in the movie) and he responds, “I can assure you that I’m the only technician of the movie who didn’t do a cameo.

And that’s for no particular reason. I was just bust shooting and couldn’t face the camera at all,” he brushes it off.

The movie, the cinematographer believes, will show Pollachi, a favourite location of our filmmakers, in an altogether new, happy light. Following this, Arvind Krishna’s next is 'Poi Solla Porom', directed by Vijay and is slated for an August release. As someone who has worked with Kollywood’s youngest directors, from Selvaraghavan (7/G Rainbow Colony, Pudupettai, Kadhal Kondein) to Gautam Menon ('Pachaikili Muthucharam') and Vijay, Arvind doesn’t see P Vasu as a director of the older generation.

“It’s rare for a director to know so much about the technical side of things. And credit goes to him for finishing work on time because he is one director who exactly knows what he wants even before shoot for a scene begins.”

If it’s laurels for P Vasu, what Arvind says about the Superstar sparks of pure adulation. “Oh, Mr Rajini is a phenomenon. He moved me with his actor role in the movie. He’s always punctual, jovial on the sets, very interactive and a fantastic actor,” he explains.

“There was this assistant director who Rajini sir used to make fun of on the sets. It was in good humour but the assistant even tried hiding his face once when the Superstar appeared on the sets. Yet, Rajini spotted him and it was such fun on the sets with the duo. Sir is a phenomenon, as a hero, as an actor and as a person,” he recalls.

And the clearly bowled-over cinematographer does have good things to say about Rajini’s on-screen role in the movie too. “It’s a classic Rajini you will see, one in the glory of his vintage days. Trust me when I say this will be one of the best movies ever,” he adds.

To any of the many Rajini fans, to see the Superstar, at close quarters in his element, a leg injury will only seem a small price to pay.

Superstar fans get 50% of tickets

CHENNAI: Looks like more people will have a chance to watch the first day, first show of actor Rajinikanth-starrer ‘Kuchelan,’ which is slated for release later this month.
A press release issued by K. Sathyanarayanan, manager, Rajinikanth Fans’ Association, said that only 50 per cent of the tickets that usually went to members of fan clubs would be given away for ‘Kuchelan’.

Theatre owners’ plea

The decision was taken after owners of theatres requested them to make tickets available to all film buffs, and not just members of Mr. Rajinikanth’s fan clubs, the release said.

Queried on how this would help, Abirami Ramanthan, president of the Film Theatre Owners’ Association, Chennai, told The Hindu: “We wanted more people from the general public to be able to see the film within first three days of the film’s release.”

“Earlier, almost all the tickets were purchased by fan clubs. So we requested them to consider this arrangement. Now the average film buff has a fair chance of catching the film on the day of its release,” he added.

Superstar Rajinikanth ROCKS in Kuselan Trailer

One look at the full length trailer of 'Kuselan' and your jaw would drop in awe and admiration at the style and magnificence of Rajinikanth's personality in 'Kuselan'. The superstar looks decades younger and his body language is just about perfect with stunning precision.

As actor Sathyaraj famously said once, 'Rajini's body language is great even when he sleeps', the man of the moment Rajinikanth has done justice to his part as a star on screen. The trailer also reveals many things. An insight into the story of how a world which was common for two boys had drifted apart creating two different worlds as time the weary traveler moves on stealthily.

Vadivelu looks comical and vibrant. One look at him and you are sure to have a good laugh. Wonder what the twin mustache does for him. The mustache grows bigger and smaller at will. Wonder what controls that?

The music and the general appeal of the trailer sure carries the soul of the film at its flamboyant best.

P. Vasu, the master at amalgamating good stories and the commercial element seems to have gotten out of the correct side of his bed when he started off with 'Kuselan'. Everything seems to have fallen in place. Rajinikanth of course is the star….be it the trailer or the full length film.

The superstar rocks in this trailer.

Why the daughter is The Boss

Sondarya Rajnikant talks to SUDHISH KAMATHabout growing up, her family, her superstar father and much, much more

What if you are Superstar’s biggest fan and you got a chance to live with him all your life? And then you grow up, dream big and get a chance to direct him in your very first movie — a $10 million baby with Adlabs? And, though he’s your father, here you are telling him what to do and calling the shots.

And, apart from being among the hottest single eligible women in the city, you’ve signed an exclusive motion picture production deal with Warner Bros., a deal with Westland Books for two books including a biography on the Superstar himself, and are helming Ocher Studios, a three-year-old company that executes about 40 per cent of the market’s animation and visual effects projects in this part of the world.

All of this, on your own, without a single rupee from him. Well, that much success when you are still twenty-something usually adds a few kilos to the weight of your head. But not her. Sondarya Rajnikant travels light.

So when she breezes in sporting sunglasses, a rudraksh around her neck, a smart deep blue semi-formal shirt buttoned down with jeans to sit down for an interview without a prepared speech or notes to read from, you are impressed. It’s a style statement that incorporates fashion, spirituality, simplicity, business and casualness.

Just back after her first experience shooting for her own film in Vietnam (she spent 40 days shooting the action sequences including a war scene with international stuntmen) and ahead of leaving to Hyderabad to shoot with her Dad for “Sultan”, she seems to be in a mood to open up about her company, her private life and family.

“The shooting is strictly for reference. What we shoot, we edit and then motion-capture,” she explains. “I expect perfection. So even if we could shoot just one guy and replicate it for an army, we shot with 100 guys. Just for reference.”

She’s certain “Sultan” is going to break new grounds in animation. “We’re attempting something as realistic as “Beowulf”. I’ve always been interested in visual effects and I knew I wanted to direct but I didn’t want to do the usual things. Why travel the road already taken? I have always felt that everybody has looked at India as an outsourcing hub. But it’s time we produce content that’s as good as Japanese or Chinese content.”

Sondarya recalls how her 18-month-old dream was originally conceived as ‘Superstar’ and then titled ‘Hara’.

“The main character is still called Hara. We know Hariharan is Ayyappan. But we’re releasing in Hindi and the people at Adlabs told us they would say ‘Haara’ (as in flop). So I told this to Appa, he took a minute to think over it and said: Call it Sultan. It’s universal for a story about a warrior.”

Being the youngest in the company where all, but one, employees are less than 40 years old, Sondarya says she’s never had a problem with responsibility. “I was Cul-Sec (Cultural Secretary) in school, I was class leader... In the university too, I’ve been the group head. I have always been the person who leads, never the one who follows.”

Being a leader needs vision and Sondarya can see far enough, her self-belief further vindicated when she convinced Warner Bros. to sign along the dotted line. “It was a lot of work but we signed the third time we met.”
On the state of films

Every other hero wants to be Superstar. But isn’t her Dad responsible for this himself? Creating an iconic status so desirable that everybody wants to get there.

“Yes, he’s responsible,” she laughs. “The most aped part is how he walks swiftly towards the camera… Everybody is doing it. He’s an inspiration but there can be only one Rajnikant. We are going through a phase where it is easy to get into films but the question is how many films are you going to last? That’s why I say the script is the hero. We’re trying to do films with good scripts, not necessarily hero-centric films. We’re trying to cover a market that’s not been touched. We’re starting production on Venkat Prabhu’s “Goa” in October. We want to encourage performing actors, different genres… not aruva all the time. Everybody wants to be a don like Baasha, everybody wants 10 people to walk behind them. We hope we can change that.”

SONDARYA'S FAVOURITES

Genre – Fantasy
Films — “Lion King”, “Thalapathy”, “Roja”, “Shrek”, “Finding Nemo”, “Annamalai”, “Lagaan”, “Dil Chahta Hai”, “Gladiator”, “Last Samurai”.
Filmmakers — Mani Ratnam, Steven Spielberg, Clint Eastwood.

GROWING UP - THE PERSONAL STORY

My father used to do 14 films in a year though now he does one every three years. My mother never made us feel his absence. My sister and I used to fight a lot. For clothes, in particular. Mother had to come and separate us.

We are very close. Mother insisted we stayed in the same room. After Aishwarya got married, it took time for us to accept it. That first night when she wasn’t at home, that was the time I realised how much I missed her. I called her and cried.

The best experience growing up was when we took off to see the World Cup in London. We love watching cricket as a family. You should see my Dad cheer India. He’s out there standing and whistling. It was cold but we never took flights. We insisted on taking trains. We wanted to see the countryside.

You know how my Dad is. We were raised to live simple. So even when you know you can have what you want, you are happy with what you have. I’m not saying I don’t splurge. I’m obsessed with Aviator frames (sunglasses). I have the same thing in different colours. When I took Appa to Brussels for a body scan to Eyetronics (the company that did 3D scanning for Brad Pitt for “Troy” and Johnny Depp for “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”), we were there for 20 days. On the way back, we stopped in London and I took my Dad shopping. He’s the best shopping companion I’ve had. He never complained and I was like a princess just buying whatever I wanted and he was carrying all the bags. I took pictures of him carrying the bags thinking ‘That’s Rajnikant, carrying luggage for his daughter.’ He’s a fun dad.

Appa can’t walk on the road the way he does in London. We do go out. I do get recognised. When people come and talk to you, we don’t look at it as interference. It doesn’t reach a point where it becomes a nuisance.

But can I go and sit at Zaras? No, I can’t.

Superstar with a Golden Heart

There's a hearsay doing rounds in Kollywood that the lead star cast of Kuselan - including Pasupathy, Meena and Vadivelu were uncomfortable because of total blackout in ads. The matter went to Superstar's ears. He could understand the feeling of the co-actors.

The next moment he called Vadivelu in his mobile. That time he could not be reached since he was in shooting. During the break he happened to see the "Missed Call" from Superstar and get shocked and immediately he rang him. On the opposite side, Superstar said, "Sorry Mr.Vadiveu"

Vadivelu this had a terrible shock and couldn't get why Superstar says 'Sorry'.

Superstar said to him, "They are giving prominence only to me in Kuselan ads and promotions. I am not responsible for this and no way connected to that. So, you shouldn't mistake me."

"Oh...Annae what is this...? It is indeed i am gifted to act with you. Why should i feel that i am sidelined. It's a pride for me to be a part in Kuselan," floored Vadivelu replied.

Later Superstar complimented him for his amazing job in the film.

"It is their film. And i am a part in that."

The next, it is reported that he called the makers of the film and expressed his dissatisfaction over sidelining of other artistes in promos.

"It is their film and I have acted in that. That's all. It is unfair to ignore them in ads. Please do something as it is embarrassing me." - Superstar told them.

The producers and distributors took the concern of Superstar seriously and the other star cast in the film have been included in all ads as you see here. These are the ads that appeared after superstar's concern.
