Endhiran goes to Hollywood - Sun & HBO tie up

Sun Pictures is all set to make director Shankar’s dream of making it to Hollywood come true. It’s on the verge of a tie-up with HBO which will see Enthiran being released in the West simultaneously.
Producing Enthiran is part of Sun Pictures’ master strategy. For the last three months, it has been striding in where others fear to tread, releasing small-budget films that would have otherwise floundered in today’s market, and turning them into box-office hits. These include Kaadhalil Vilzunden, Thenavettu and last week’s release Dindugal Sarathi.

Corporate struggle

Sun Pictures’ strategy comes at a time when corporate filmmakers are struggling to stay afloat in the industry given the economic scenario.

Eros’s Bollywood productions — Drona and Yuvraj — bombed. Ditto with Ayangaran’s Aegan, Dhaam Dhoom and Kuselan.

They lost much money trying to absorb Shankar’s mega-budget Enthiran. The film started out as a Rs 120-crore project but kept increasing.

When Ayangaran and Eros started to back off, Sun Pictures came to the rescue, taking over the film and getting Shankar and Rajini to announce it on TV. Reason for the hurried takeover: Who wants to lose the call sheet of superstar Rajini and Aishwarya?

Enthiran’s budget has now almost reached a record of sorts — Rs 200-crore, sources say.
Enthiran will be subtitled in English and released in Hollywood simultaneously, making it the biggest opening for the film industry. Rajinikanth’s Shivaji had raked in good money overseas and has made things easier for Shankar.

With promotion in full swing, the film is progressing well after having suffered due to the recent cyclone in Chennai. The crew is about to finish the shoot at VIT University College in Vellore. The next stop is Top Slip and Valparai and the crew will then move to Kulu Manali next year.

Director Shankar has a reputation for concentrating on his work and keeping a low profile when the film is made. But he should at least do something about rumours of blowing up a Rs 1-crore Mercedes for a shot.
Then again, as they say in filmdom, any publicity is good publicity. Best of luck, team Shankar.

Sivaji - The Boss movie available on Blue-Ray now

After acquiring the DVD rights of Rajni starrer Sivaji directed by Shankar, Ayngaran International has launched Sivaji on Blu-Ray, the next-gen discs! Now, Sivaji Rajinikanth is not only a ‘Vellai Tamizhan’ but is also the brightest Tamizhan on TV!

What is Blu-Ray? While conventional CD and DVD readers/ writers use red laser rays to read or write/ read data, Blu-Ray writers uses blue laser rays (405 nm), with wavelengths shorter than red lasers (650 nm), which means the blue laser is finer than its red counterpart. This allows Blu-Ray writers to write more data in less space with greater precision. This is analogous to a sharp-sighted artist (enabled with good magnifying glass) painting on a grain of rice with his finest brush. Finer the brush, finer the art work; for these artists, there is enough space on a single grain to draw landscapes or intricate designs and patterns! Similarly, a single Blu-Ray DVD can store up to 500 GB of data.

Of late, being available on Blu-Ray format has become a status-builder for films. To that extent, Sivaji has added one more feather to its cap. Thanks to the efforts of Ayngaran International, now you can watch Sivaji on a Blu-Ray disc, which will be a first-of-a-kind experience.

Endhiran - The Robot goes to Kulu Manali

The next schedule of Robot shooting will take place in Kulu Manali, one of the beautiful tourist attractions. Shooting in Vellore will be completed by tommorrow.
Superstar will romance Ash in a duet to be shot there. People who are getting a glimps of Superstar in the shooting are stunned by the look and style and cannot believe that the superstar has turned 59 this year. He looks like a 30 year old young man. Ash has pointed this many times with a lot of surprise in her face.

After every shot when they see the output in the camera everyone is so thrilled about the way superstar has presented each scene.
There are rumours that shankar had asked for high end Merc car and also used in the stunt scenes and destroyed it. This is a rubbish news published by some cheap media.
Shankar has not yet started shooting action scenes yet.

Superstar us always against the meaningless expenditure and will not allow just for flash. He knows the budget and will advice everyone around it.

Why cant these useless media understand before publishing such baseless rubbish.

A phenomenon called Rajinikanth

Rajinikanth-India's answer to James Bond? Right! Who needs Bond, when we have our own Desi Bond, after all a wave of enthusiasm sweeps Tamil Nadu and other parts of India as Rajini's die-hard fans burst crackers and distribute sweets to celebrate every time any of his movies hits the Box Office.

When 'Sivaji: The Boss', hit the screens, his fans performed rituals by bathing Rajini's cut-outs with milk and breaking coconuts to ward off evil forces. This is the amount of adulation this man commands. It's the 'the phenomenon of Rajinikanth', an inexplicable, outlandish admiration that beholds the eyes of every movie goer of this country.

All this for a man whose stunts are world famous, his witty dialogues have fans in Japan and China. His movies are a correct amalgamation of racy stunts, punchy one-liners, raunchy dance moves, tear jerking emotions and last but not the least having goodness triumph over evil. In one line: a typical enthralling potboiler.

But all this has not been a cake walk for 'Boss'. A lot has gone into the making of this Superstar. It is a rags to riches story.

The Initial Days

Rajinikanth was born in a mediocre Maharashtrian family based in Karnataka. He had a difficult childhood and his was not a very well to do family.

In his youth, he survived by doing all kinds of odd jobs in Bangalore. He also worked as a bus conductor, a reason why he connects so well with the masses. He also attended a theatre for stage plays. It was during this time that he nurtured his acting interests by performing in various stage plays. He later on went on to do a formal course in acting from Madras.

A Star was Born

After years of immense struggle came Katha Sangama, his Kannada debut film in 1975. Initiallyhe had to do with mere supporting roles, mostly those of villains and after much initiation came the lead roles. Then came films like 'Bhuvana Oru Kelvikkuri' and 'Aarilirunthu Arubathu Varai' which changed his image entirely and for the good. People saw him in a positive role for the first time.

These turned out to be the turning point in Rajini's career as he transformed from an actor, who merely fascinated the audiences, to one whom they could associate with. The acceptance of Rajinikanth sans his mannerisms testified that a star was born. Success was repeated with Billa, Murattukaalai,Pokkiri Raja, Thanikattu Raja, Naan Mahaan Alla and Moondru Mugam.

From then, there was no looking back. His professional success was followed by a milestone in his personal life that was his marriage to Latha in 1981.

The Epitome

The man kept on rising in his career silencing all his critics by his work. He went on to become one of India's most loved stars. In the late eighties and early nineties, he reached the altitude of success with most of his movies like Mannan, Padayappa, Muthu, Baashha, Annamalaiand Veera becoming blockbusters down south. His movies had set such high records that it was believed that only he will be able to break his own records at the Box Office!

It was during this time that Rajinikanth made his entry into the mainstream Hindi cinema with Andha Kanoon. Though the response was lukewarm but at the same time it could not stop him from riveting the rest of India with his innate charm. He did a few more of Hindi movies including Chaalbaaz, Uttar Dakshin and Hum, but his heart always belonged to his native regional cinema. Apart from Bollywood he also has a Hollywood movie, Bloodstone to his credit.

International Acclaim: The Conqueror of China

If Raj Kapoor 'conquered' the Russians, and Amitabh Bachchan the Lebanese, Rajni seems to have carved up a major chunk of the Eastern belt for himself.

In present day China, a young Chinese youth watching a movie on his DVD system; a closer look at TV screen can surprisingly recall our very own 'Rajini' delivering his punchy dialogues to the villains in the rough slang used by the water front gangs, even while he romances his lady love in chaste Chinese! A major chunk of Chinese population admire him for his action packed sequences and rugged body language.

Malaysia is not too far behind either. A large number of Malays, Malay-speaking Chinese and Japanese are Rajini fans. Ask why? The answer is the 'common' love for soul wrenching action, crunchy pick up lines, scintillating dance moves and amusing slapstick comic timing; all these make Rajini a winner in this part of the world.

The Style Icon

Once upon a time, Indian heroes were meant to be representing the common man. Then came a day when a common looking, handsomely dark dude taught people a new way of lighting a cigarette- he would place it on his left palm and pat it - the cigarette would land on his lips, in the fraction of a second. This was Rajinikanth, the stylish icon of South Indian cinema. The same goes for the black sunglasses which had to fly, take a turn and only then can they come and sit on the nose of Rajini, the hero who walked the stylish gait.

Earlier the Indian audiences had followed their favourite filmstars' dress sense and hairstyle but now, for the first time, a star's mannerisms had come to be the subject of hot discussion in drawing rooms. Rajini became a sort of trendsetter who could attract the attention of even those who are otherwise indifferent to the film stars and their antics.

These days, he has Manish Malhotra to design his clothes. He has come far, but neither the increasing age nor a decreasing hairline has caused the Rajinikanth magic to wane.

A Commoner at Heart

Ego and starry airs are unknown to Rajinikanth. It is learnt that even during breaks he hardly ever rushes to his air-conditioned makeup room. Instead, he prefers to sleep on the sets, even without a pillow, merely covering his eyes with a wet cloth.

When 'Baba', one of his movies could not gross enough at the Box Office; accumulating heavy losses for the distributors. He himself repaid the losses incurred by the distributors who had immense faith in him.

Rajini's Trivia

His real name is Shivajirao Gaekwad.

He is also known as Periya Thalaivar (Big Boss)

Although his mother-tongue is Marathi, he has not acted in any Marathi movies yet. Before starting his career in the film industry, he worked as a bus conductor for the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation in Bangalore.

In 1980's, at a crucial phase in his career when he was accomplishing all his career heights, Rajinikant abruptly chose to quit acting, but was coaxed to return back.

His comeback vehicle 'Billa' was a remake of Amitabh Bachchan starrer Don.

Muthu, a film starring Raijni was the first Tamil film to be dubbed into Japanese as Muthu: The Dancing Maharajah.

Apart from Tamil, Rajinikant has acted in 173 movies, including Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi and Bengali movies.

Rajinikanth was named as one of the influential persons in South Asia by Asiaweek. Rajini is India's most highly paid actor.

He received the Padma Bhushan, for his work in Indian cinema in 2000.

His latest film, Sivaji: The Boss, directed by S Shankar is the first Tamil movie to make to the UK and South Africa Top 10 Charts.

Famous Movies: Chandramukhi,Padayappa, Peddarayudu, Basha, Muthu, Annamalai, Thalapathy, Velaikaran, Sri Raghavendra, Nallavanuku Nallavan, Billa, Moondru Mugam, Enkeyo Ketta Kural, Aarilirunthu Arubathu Varai, Mullum Malarum, Chandramukhi, Sivaji, Bulandi, Aatank Hi Aatank, Insaniyat Ke Devta, Farishtay, Phool Bane Angaray, Hum, Chaalbaaz, Gair Kaanooni, Uttar Dakshin, Asli Naqli, Bhagwan Dada, Dosti Dushmani, Maha Guru, Bewafai, Giraftaar, John Jani Janardhan, Meri Adalat, Aakhri Sangram, Andhaa Kaanoon.

Superstar or Super human being?

Last three days, Enthiran shooting was carried out at Ennur Port. Rajini and Aishwarya Rai dream scenes were shooted from 9pm to 3am daily. Therefore, tight police security was provided at the port.

Last day shooting was carried out at that port. Rajini normally drives his car from Poes Garden via Redhills and Ponneri and reach Maneli. However, yesterday he drived through 100feet road to reach Maneli. Unfortunately, he was caught in heavy traffic with hundreds of cars and buses standing still for few kilometers.

Immediately, he contacted Director Shankar and informed about the situation. Shankar proposed to postphone the shooting but Rajini informed him that the shooting shall not be cancelled due to him.

Director Shankar arranged 4 motorbikes immediately and he went to Rajini's location with few stunt masters. They requested Rajini to wear rain coat and helmet. Rajini sat behind one of the stunt master bike and they drove him to the shooting spot within 30 mins via short cut. All the cine personalities at the shooting spot were excited to see Rajini coming by motorbike.

What a human being is this man! A person with a golden heart indeed. We salute this marvelous person with all our heart.

Sun Pictures to snap up India's costliest flick Robot

Friends
If sources are to be believed Sun Group might be handling Endhiran from now on.

CHENNAI: This buyout has a filmy touch to it. Buoyed by its initial success in movie production, Marans-owned Sun Pictures has bought out the production rights for the costliest Indian movie to date Robot- starring Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai.

The sci -fi movie, to be directed by Shankar and with a whopping Rs 100 crore + budget, was initially supposed to have been produced by London based Ayngaran International, in which Kishore Lulla-owned Eros International has a controlling stake.

But sources close to the development said owing to financial troubles, Ayngaran is transferring all the production costs of the movie to Sun Pictures. Officials at Ayngaran and Sun Pictures could not be reached for comment or further details. But sources involved in the deal said that a formal agreement will be signed on Thursday and the total value of the deal could cross a hundred crore.

If the agreement goes through, this will be the second such bailout for the recently floated Sun Pictures. It acquired the distribution rights for its maiden film "Kadhalil Vizhunden" from Atlantic Cinemas. Sun Pictures infused life into the movie and made it a runaway by actively marketing it Sun Network's TV and radio media.

A similar positive climax awaits "Robot", which is riding on huge dollops of money and hype. After the Rajini-starrer, Sivaji, The Boss created waves as the most expensive movie at Rs 80 crore, Rajini-Rai starrer "Robot" became the next big thing in film circles.

It also had a touch of drama to it because Shahrukh Khan was initially supposed to star and co-produce the movie through his company, Red Chillies Entertainment. However, it was drooped owing to creative differences between director Shankar and Shahrukh. Industry sources say, give Shankar's reputation for an ostentatious canvas, the cost of production of Robot could run into hundreds of crores, setting a new Indian record. The movie will take another year and a half for completion.

The film will be made in Tamil, but will be released in five languages, including Hindi and Telugu, besides a couple of other regional languages. The movie will also rope in a few Bollywood stars, to add to the glam factor, but details on this front have not been formalised.

Superstar makes headlines in newspaper despite his request not to celebrate!

Deccan Chronicle

Read below the times article..

Happy birthday Rajini, the undisputed Baasha at the box-office - (Times of India, Chennai)CT wishes the Superstar a wonderful birthday as he turns 58 today.

SREEDHAR PILLAI Times News Network

December 12 is a red letter day in the Tamil film calendar. It is the birthday of Superstar Rajnikanth and his fans celebrate it with a lot of fervour and enthusiasm. Rajinikanth has been ruling the Tamil box-office for over two decades. In most of the 153 odd movies he has done in a career spanning 33 years, Rajinikanth has reached out to the mass audiences with his electrifying screen presence mixed with heroism, peppy songs and famous punchlines.

Today, he turns 58, and he will be in Hyderabad at the Ramoji Rao studio shooting for daughter Soundarya Rajinikanth’s animation film Sultan — The Warrior. This year, he has urged his fans not to celebrate his birthday as he has been pained by what is happening to the Tamils in Sri Lanka. Added to that, the Mumbai massacre has also shell-shocked the nation and the film industry.

On the career front, this year will go down as one of the worst years for the star as Kuselan, in which he did a
cameo role, took a drubbing at the box-office. Then, he had to clarify on a Kannada television channel for his remarks on the Hogenekkal issue, which also created problems for the actor. But he has bounced back from every setback and remains the undisputed Baasha at the box-office.

Meanwhile, work is progressing on his prestigious magnum opus Enthiren, directed by Shankar. The shooting of the film is taking place in different locations in and around Chennai. Two songs have been shot and nearly 30 percent of the talkie portion has been completed. The producers are trying their best to release it for Diwali 2009. Rajinikanth, it seems, has passed the test of a true superstar as people who know nothing about Tamil cinema still recognise him as an icon!

Times

Happy birthday to our beloved Superstar

The superstar's fans were gearing up to celebrate their star's birthday which falls on the 12th of December. But Rajinikanth had requested them not to celebrate his birthday as the killing of innocent Tamils in Sri Lanka continues.

Rajini had left Chennai on December 10th to Hyderabad where he will participate in the shooting of Sultan – The Warrior. The film is directed by his daughter Soundarya Rajinikanth. The shooting is on at the Ramoji Film City. The star is expected back in the city on December 15th. It is worth mentioning here that Rajini never stays in the city for his birthdays and prefers to spend time on his own or with his family.

Impressed Rajini showers praises on Dr Gayatri

A smiling 'Super Star' Rajinikanth was all praise for Dr Gayathri Srikanth, who along with her husband called on the actor in Chennai after the successful launch of the Tamil version of Rajinikanth's biography 'Rajini Pera Ketalae'.

The actor made anxious enquiries about the mega event that saw the release of the book amidst popular celebrities. The couple was accompanied by veteran director S P Muthuraman, who has rendered 25 hits with Rajinikanth playing the hero.

Rajinikanth expressed his confidence that her Tamil book too would rock just as the English version did. The English version, 'The Name is Rajinikanth' was released a few months ago.

Superstar Rajini offers condolences to Prabhu Deva

It was a sad day for actor-director Prabhu Deva's family yesterday (4th December 2008). The 13-year-old son Vishal of Prabhu Deva breathed his last during the early hours. Vishal had been suffering from cancer for quite sometime and his health started deteriorating lately.

Those who visited the family to offer their condolences include Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Ajith, Vijay, Kushbhu, Nayanthara and Prakash Raj. Vishal's body was cremated at the Besant Nagar crematorium at around 3 pm yesterday.
