Endhiran goes to Hollywood - Sun & HBO tie up

Sun Pictures is all set to make director Shankar’s dream of making it to Hollywood come true. It’s on the verge of a tie-up with HBO which will see Enthiran being released in the West simultaneously.
Producing Enthiran is part of Sun Pictures’ master strategy. For the last three months, it has been striding in where others fear to tread, releasing small-budget films that would have otherwise floundered in today’s market, and turning them into box-office hits. These include Kaadhalil Vilzunden, Thenavettu and last week’s release Dindugal Sarathi.

Corporate struggle

Sun Pictures’ strategy comes at a time when corporate filmmakers are struggling to stay afloat in the industry given the economic scenario.

Eros’s Bollywood productions — Drona and Yuvraj — bombed. Ditto with Ayangaran’s Aegan, Dhaam Dhoom and Kuselan.

They lost much money trying to absorb Shankar’s mega-budget Enthiran. The film started out as a Rs 120-crore project but kept increasing.

When Ayangaran and Eros started to back off, Sun Pictures came to the rescue, taking over the film and getting Shankar and Rajini to announce it on TV. Reason for the hurried takeover: Who wants to lose the call sheet of superstar Rajini and Aishwarya?

Enthiran’s budget has now almost reached a record of sorts — Rs 200-crore, sources say.
Enthiran will be subtitled in English and released in Hollywood simultaneously, making it the biggest opening for the film industry. Rajinikanth’s Shivaji had raked in good money overseas and has made things easier for Shankar.

With promotion in full swing, the film is progressing well after having suffered due to the recent cyclone in Chennai. The crew is about to finish the shoot at VIT University College in Vellore. The next stop is Top Slip and Valparai and the crew will then move to Kulu Manali next year.

Director Shankar has a reputation for concentrating on his work and keeping a low profile when the film is made. But he should at least do something about rumours of blowing up a Rs 1-crore Mercedes for a shot.
Then again, as they say in filmdom, any publicity is good publicity. Best of luck, team Shankar.

Sivaji - The Boss movie available on Blue-Ray now

After acquiring the DVD rights of Rajni starrer Sivaji directed by Shankar, Ayngaran International has launched Sivaji on Blu-Ray, the next-gen discs! Now, Sivaji Rajinikanth is not only a ‘Vellai Tamizhan’ but is also the brightest Tamizhan on TV!

What is Blu-Ray? While conventional CD and DVD readers/ writers use red laser rays to read or write/ read data, Blu-Ray writers uses blue laser rays (405 nm), with wavelengths shorter than red lasers (650 nm), which means the blue laser is finer than its red counterpart. This allows Blu-Ray writers to write more data in less space with greater precision. This is analogous to a sharp-sighted artist (enabled with good magnifying glass) painting on a grain of rice with his finest brush. Finer the brush, finer the art work; for these artists, there is enough space on a single grain to draw landscapes or intricate designs and patterns! Similarly, a single Blu-Ray DVD can store up to 500 GB of data.

Of late, being available on Blu-Ray format has become a status-builder for films. To that extent, Sivaji has added one more feather to its cap. Thanks to the efforts of Ayngaran International, now you can watch Sivaji on a Blu-Ray disc, which will be a first-of-a-kind experience.

Endhiran - The Robot goes to Kulu Manali

The next schedule of Robot shooting will take place in Kulu Manali, one of the beautiful tourist attractions. Shooting in Vellore will be completed by tommorrow.
Superstar will romance Ash in a duet to be shot there. People who are getting a glimps of Superstar in the shooting are stunned by the look and style and cannot believe that the superstar has turned 59 this year. He looks like a 30 year old young man. Ash has pointed this many times with a lot of surprise in her face.

After every shot when they see the output in the camera everyone is so thrilled about the way superstar has presented each scene.
There are rumours that shankar had asked for high end Merc car and also used in the stunt scenes and destroyed it. This is a rubbish news published by some cheap media.
Shankar has not yet started shooting action scenes yet.

Superstar us always against the meaningless expenditure and will not allow just for flash. He knows the budget and will advice everyone around it.

Why cant these useless media understand before publishing such baseless rubbish.

A phenomenon called Rajinikanth

Rajinikanth-India's answer to James Bond? Right! Who needs Bond, when we have our own Desi Bond, after all a wave of enthusiasm sweeps Tamil Nadu and other parts of India as Rajini's die-hard fans burst crackers and distribute sweets to celebrate every time any of his movies hits the Box Office.

When 'Sivaji: The Boss', hit the screens, his fans performed rituals by bathing Rajini's cut-outs with milk and breaking coconuts to ward off evil forces. This is the amount of adulation this man commands. It's the 'the phenomenon of Rajinikanth', an inexplicable, outlandish admiration that beholds the eyes of every movie goer of this country.

All this for a man whose stunts are world famous, his witty dialogues have fans in Japan and China. His movies are a correct amalgamation of racy stunts, punchy one-liners, raunchy dance moves, tear jerking emotions and last but not the least having goodness triumph over evil. In one line: a typical enthralling potboiler.

But all this has not been a cake walk for 'Boss'. A lot has gone into the making of this Superstar. It is a rags to riches story.

The Initial Days

Rajinikanth was born in a mediocre Maharashtrian family based in Karnataka. He had a difficult childhood and his was not a very well to do family.

In his youth, he survived by doing all kinds of odd jobs in Bangalore. He also worked as a bus conductor, a reason why he connects so well with the masses. He also attended a theatre for stage plays. It was during this time that he nurtured his acting interests by performing in various stage plays. He later on went on to do a formal course in acting from Madras.

A Star was Born

After years of immense struggle came Katha Sangama, his Kannada debut film in 1975. Initiallyhe had to do with mere supporting roles, mostly those of villains and after much initiation came the lead roles. Then came films like 'Bhuvana Oru Kelvikkuri' and 'Aarilirunthu Arubathu Varai' which changed his image entirely and for the good. People saw him in a positive role for the first time.

These turned out to be the turning point in Rajini's career as he transformed from an actor, who merely fascinated the audiences, to one whom they could associate with. The acceptance of Rajinikanth sans his mannerisms testified that a star was born. Success was repeated with Billa, Murattukaalai,Pokkiri Raja, Thanikattu Raja, Naan Mahaan Alla and Moondru Mugam.

From then, there was no looking back. His professional success was followed by a milestone in his personal life that was his marriage to Latha in 1981.

The Epitome

The man kept on rising in his career silencing all his critics by his work. He went on to become one of India's most loved stars. In the late eighties and early nineties, he reached the altitude of success with most of his movies like Mannan, Padayappa, Muthu, Baashha, Annamalaiand Veera becoming blockbusters down south. His movies had set such high records that it was believed that only he will be able to break his own records at the Box Office!

It was during this time that Rajinikanth made his entry into the mainstream Hindi cinema with Andha Kanoon. Though the response was lukewarm but at the same time it could not stop him from riveting the rest of India with his innate charm. He did a few more of Hindi movies including Chaalbaaz, Uttar Dakshin and Hum, but his heart always belonged to his native regional cinema. Apart from Bollywood he also has a Hollywood movie, Bloodstone to his credit.

International Acclaim: The Conqueror of China

If Raj Kapoor 'conquered' the Russians, and Amitabh Bachchan the Lebanese, Rajni seems to have carved up a major chunk of the Eastern belt for himself.

In present day China, a young Chinese youth watching a movie on his DVD system; a closer look at TV screen can surprisingly recall our very own 'Rajini' delivering his punchy dialogues to the villains in the rough slang used by the water front gangs, even while he romances his lady love in chaste Chinese! A major chunk of Chinese population admire him for his action packed sequences and rugged body language.

Malaysia is not too far behind either. A large number of Malays, Malay-speaking Chinese and Japanese are Rajini fans. Ask why? The answer is the 'common' love for soul wrenching action, crunchy pick up lines, scintillating dance moves and amusing slapstick comic timing; all these make Rajini a winner in this part of the world.

The Style Icon

Once upon a time, Indian heroes were meant to be representing the common man. Then came a day when a common looking, handsomely dark dude taught people a new way of lighting a cigarette- he would place it on his left palm and pat it - the cigarette would land on his lips, in the fraction of a second. This was Rajinikanth, the stylish icon of South Indian cinema. The same goes for the black sunglasses which had to fly, take a turn and only then can they come and sit on the nose of Rajini, the hero who walked the stylish gait.

Earlier the Indian audiences had followed their favourite filmstars' dress sense and hairstyle but now, for the first time, a star's mannerisms had come to be the subject of hot discussion in drawing rooms. Rajini became a sort of trendsetter who could attract the attention of even those who are otherwise indifferent to the film stars and their antics.

These days, he has Manish Malhotra to design his clothes. He has come far, but neither the increasing age nor a decreasing hairline has caused the Rajinikanth magic to wane.

A Commoner at Heart

Ego and starry airs are unknown to Rajinikanth. It is learnt that even during breaks he hardly ever rushes to his air-conditioned makeup room. Instead, he prefers to sleep on the sets, even without a pillow, merely covering his eyes with a wet cloth.

When 'Baba', one of his movies could not gross enough at the Box Office; accumulating heavy losses for the distributors. He himself repaid the losses incurred by the distributors who had immense faith in him.

Rajini's Trivia

His real name is Shivajirao Gaekwad.

He is also known as Periya Thalaivar (Big Boss)

Although his mother-tongue is Marathi, he has not acted in any Marathi movies yet. Before starting his career in the film industry, he worked as a bus conductor for the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation in Bangalore.

In 1980's, at a crucial phase in his career when he was accomplishing all his career heights, Rajinikant abruptly chose to quit acting, but was coaxed to return back.

His comeback vehicle 'Billa' was a remake of Amitabh Bachchan starrer Don.

Muthu, a film starring Raijni was the first Tamil film to be dubbed into Japanese as Muthu: The Dancing Maharajah.

Apart from Tamil, Rajinikant has acted in 173 movies, including Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi and Bengali movies.

Rajinikanth was named as one of the influential persons in South Asia by Asiaweek. Rajini is India's most highly paid actor.

He received the Padma Bhushan, for his work in Indian cinema in 2000.

His latest film, Sivaji: The Boss, directed by S Shankar is the first Tamil movie to make to the UK and South Africa Top 10 Charts.

Famous Movies: Chandramukhi,Padayappa, Peddarayudu, Basha, Muthu, Annamalai, Thalapathy, Velaikaran, Sri Raghavendra, Nallavanuku Nallavan, Billa, Moondru Mugam, Enkeyo Ketta Kural, Aarilirunthu Arubathu Varai, Mullum Malarum, Chandramukhi, Sivaji, Bulandi, Aatank Hi Aatank, Insaniyat Ke Devta, Farishtay, Phool Bane Angaray, Hum, Chaalbaaz, Gair Kaanooni, Uttar Dakshin, Asli Naqli, Bhagwan Dada, Dosti Dushmani, Maha Guru, Bewafai, Giraftaar, John Jani Janardhan, Meri Adalat, Aakhri Sangram, Andhaa Kaanoon.

Superstar or Super human being?

Last three days, Enthiran shooting was carried out at Ennur Port. Rajini and Aishwarya Rai dream scenes were shooted from 9pm to 3am daily. Therefore, tight police security was provided at the port.

Last day shooting was carried out at that port. Rajini normally drives his car from Poes Garden via Redhills and Ponneri and reach Maneli. However, yesterday he drived through 100feet road to reach Maneli. Unfortunately, he was caught in heavy traffic with hundreds of cars and buses standing still for few kilometers.

Immediately, he contacted Director Shankar and informed about the situation. Shankar proposed to postphone the shooting but Rajini informed him that the shooting shall not be cancelled due to him.

Director Shankar arranged 4 motorbikes immediately and he went to Rajini's location with few stunt masters. They requested Rajini to wear rain coat and helmet. Rajini sat behind one of the stunt master bike and they drove him to the shooting spot within 30 mins via short cut. All the cine personalities at the shooting spot were excited to see Rajini coming by motorbike.

What a human being is this man! A person with a golden heart indeed. We salute this marvelous person with all our heart.

Sun Pictures to snap up India's costliest flick Robot

Friends
If sources are to be believed Sun Group might be handling Endhiran from now on.

CHENNAI: This buyout has a filmy touch to it. Buoyed by its initial success in movie production, Marans-owned Sun Pictures has bought out the production rights for the costliest Indian movie to date Robot- starring Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai.

The sci -fi movie, to be directed by Shankar and with a whopping Rs 100 crore + budget, was initially supposed to have been produced by London based Ayngaran International, in which Kishore Lulla-owned Eros International has a controlling stake.

But sources close to the development said owing to financial troubles, Ayngaran is transferring all the production costs of the movie to Sun Pictures. Officials at Ayngaran and Sun Pictures could not be reached for comment or further details. But sources involved in the deal said that a formal agreement will be signed on Thursday and the total value of the deal could cross a hundred crore.

If the agreement goes through, this will be the second such bailout for the recently floated Sun Pictures. It acquired the distribution rights for its maiden film "Kadhalil Vizhunden" from Atlantic Cinemas. Sun Pictures infused life into the movie and made it a runaway by actively marketing it Sun Network's TV and radio media.

A similar positive climax awaits "Robot", which is riding on huge dollops of money and hype. After the Rajini-starrer, Sivaji, The Boss created waves as the most expensive movie at Rs 80 crore, Rajini-Rai starrer "Robot" became the next big thing in film circles.

It also had a touch of drama to it because Shahrukh Khan was initially supposed to star and co-produce the movie through his company, Red Chillies Entertainment. However, it was drooped owing to creative differences between director Shankar and Shahrukh. Industry sources say, give Shankar's reputation for an ostentatious canvas, the cost of production of Robot could run into hundreds of crores, setting a new Indian record. The movie will take another year and a half for completion.

The film will be made in Tamil, but will be released in five languages, including Hindi and Telugu, besides a couple of other regional languages. The movie will also rope in a few Bollywood stars, to add to the glam factor, but details on this front have not been formalised.

Superstar makes headlines in newspaper despite his request not to celebrate!

Deccan Chronicle

Read below the times article..

Happy birthday Rajini, the undisputed Baasha at the box-office - (Times of India, Chennai)CT wishes the Superstar a wonderful birthday as he turns 58 today.

SREEDHAR PILLAI Times News Network

December 12 is a red letter day in the Tamil film calendar. It is the birthday of Superstar Rajnikanth and his fans celebrate it with a lot of fervour and enthusiasm. Rajinikanth has been ruling the Tamil box-office for over two decades. In most of the 153 odd movies he has done in a career spanning 33 years, Rajinikanth has reached out to the mass audiences with his electrifying screen presence mixed with heroism, peppy songs and famous punchlines.

Today, he turns 58, and he will be in Hyderabad at the Ramoji Rao studio shooting for daughter Soundarya Rajinikanth’s animation film Sultan — The Warrior. This year, he has urged his fans not to celebrate his birthday as he has been pained by what is happening to the Tamils in Sri Lanka. Added to that, the Mumbai massacre has also shell-shocked the nation and the film industry.

On the career front, this year will go down as one of the worst years for the star as Kuselan, in which he did a
cameo role, took a drubbing at the box-office. Then, he had to clarify on a Kannada television channel for his remarks on the Hogenekkal issue, which also created problems for the actor. But he has bounced back from every setback and remains the undisputed Baasha at the box-office.

Meanwhile, work is progressing on his prestigious magnum opus Enthiren, directed by Shankar. The shooting of the film is taking place in different locations in and around Chennai. Two songs have been shot and nearly 30 percent of the talkie portion has been completed. The producers are trying their best to release it for Diwali 2009. Rajinikanth, it seems, has passed the test of a true superstar as people who know nothing about Tamil cinema still recognise him as an icon!

Times

Happy birthday to our beloved Superstar

The superstar's fans were gearing up to celebrate their star's birthday which falls on the 12th of December. But Rajinikanth had requested them not to celebrate his birthday as the killing of innocent Tamils in Sri Lanka continues.

Rajini had left Chennai on December 10th to Hyderabad where he will participate in the shooting of Sultan – The Warrior. The film is directed by his daughter Soundarya Rajinikanth. The shooting is on at the Ramoji Film City. The star is expected back in the city on December 15th. It is worth mentioning here that Rajini never stays in the city for his birthdays and prefers to spend time on his own or with his family.

Impressed Rajini showers praises on Dr Gayatri

A smiling 'Super Star' Rajinikanth was all praise for Dr Gayathri Srikanth, who along with her husband called on the actor in Chennai after the successful launch of the Tamil version of Rajinikanth's biography 'Rajini Pera Ketalae'.

The actor made anxious enquiries about the mega event that saw the release of the book amidst popular celebrities. The couple was accompanied by veteran director S P Muthuraman, who has rendered 25 hits with Rajinikanth playing the hero.

Endhiran shooting extremely confidential !

Endhiran’s shooting is currently taking place in Chennai, confirms our sources. It is said that Shankar is filming a few important scenes in the northern parts of Chennai and the locations are kept so secret that the crew are not aware of the shooting spot even a day prior.

Interestingly, Rajini is also trying to mask himself in anonymity and is adopting various new techniques to get away from the fans and bystanders. It is well known in film circles that the Superstar prefers and uses either an Ambassador or Fiat car. In an attempt to conceal his identity, Rajini is off late spotted seen using a Toyota Qualis.

Rajini pera ketaale….! Superstar's biography all set to release in tamil

Endhiran - 3rd schedule begins smoothly

Friends
After some baseless rumours doing the rounds (global crisis will Endhiran continue shoot, marmayogi shelved etc) the shooting proceeds as per plan and there are no changes.

There had been a few jitters in the Endhiran camp following the global economic meltdown and its concomitant effect on Ayngaran. There had been doubts as to when the third schedule, slated to begin on the 16th of the month would actually take off. Now, new developments suggest that damage control has effectively set in and there might not be much to fear.

The management of Ayngaran has reportedly asked Shankar about the exact requirements of the schedule. This is being done as a measure to tighten purse strings to ensure that no problems are encountered during later stages of shooting. So, the third schedule, set in the pristine snow clad valleys of Kulu Manali is expected to take of this month, after a four day delay. Looking at how big the problems being faced by the industry in general are (Marmayogi being all but shelved being an indicator of the magnitude) this four day delay is not much.

Shankar plans to shoot a duet featuring Superstar and Aishwarya Rai in some never before tried locations in Kulu Manali, trust Shankar to surprise us. The visuals will definitely have the rich and grand stamp of the master director.

Infosys says Rajini is the biggest star of India

Infosys conducts polls in their intra web site among employees to get to know their pulse in several issues and subjects. Though every branch of Infosys has provisions to conduct polls, normally it is conducted by the “Mangalore” people and people in all other Indian cities will be able to vote !

Yesterday, the title of the poll was “Who is the real Superstar of Indian cinema?“

And of course ‘No prize’ for guessing the poll result(please find attached pic), but I feel this carries more importance for the following reasons.

The poll is not constrained within southindia and more than 50% people are northindians and tamil people might be max 20%.

Each person can give only one vote. So around 6800 people across india have voted for the same, 6800 individual votes(the biggest turn out for a poll so far)
Also, one has to remember that this poll has come after so many bad controversies about thalaivar- courtesy : hogenakkal, kuselan, ill media works coz of vijayakanth’s tactics etc

So indeed this is a great news to cheer and ofcourse to share with all fans !!!

Already NDTV,CNN IBN,Times Now and Headlines Today Surveys revealed that more than 85% of their viewers favoured Rajini as the Biggest Superstar ever of Indian Cinema. So this is another jewel in Superstar’s Crown.

'Sultan -The Warrior' will release on April 14th 2009

Rajinikanth's much-awaited animation movie 'Sultan -The Warrior' will hit the screens on 14th April, 2009.

The film boasts of some big names like music composer A R Rahman, lyricist Vairamuthu and art director Thota Tharani.

Soundarya Rajnikanth, said, 'we are the first in India to venture into a feature length 3D film at this scale on par with any other Pixar or Dreamworks' movies'.

The character modeling, texturing, visual effects, lighting, animation are all being done in-house. It will be released in 12 different languages including Tamil, Hindi, Telugu and English to name a few.

'I am a great fan of Rajinikanth and I love all his films. Sultan The Warrior would appease all his fans. The movie is a dedication to my father for all his contribution to cinema,' she said and added, 'my father initially had apprehensions about my directorial skills. I convinced him thoroughly and he is now happy to be a part of the project'.

Rajinikanth proved he is lord and master of Kollywood

The most eagerly awaited Diwali day (Oct 27) Tamil Television Ratings (TRP) are out.
Remember the fireworks when Rajinikanth’s Chandramukhi on Sun TV clashed with Ajit’s Billa telecast by Kalaignar TV in the evening 6 pm prime time Diwali day slot?

The winner by a mile is Rajinikanth’s Chandramukhi, which got a whopping TRP of 20.82, while Billa was way behind with 4.28, according to TAM, the authentic Mumbai based television rating agency. The surprise element was that nobody expected Billa to perform so badly when pitched against Chandramukhi.

As per the ratings on Diwali day, at number two was Kamal Hassan classic Vettaiyadu Vilayadu a re-telecast on Sun TV in the 11am slot which got a TRP rating of 11.29. Meanwhile at the same time on Kalaignar TV, Arjun’s Marudhamalai got an impressive 7.74, and came in the third position.

Like in theatres, on television nobody can come near Rajinikanth. He is clearly ahead of all others put together. No wonder nobody dares to release their film along with the superstar. After Chandramukhi’s outstanding ratings on television, Rajinikanth has once again proved he is lord and master of Kollywood.

Advani meets Rajnikanth, talks politics, state affairs etc

Friends
When Mr.Advani met Superstar at his residence there was a buzz in the country, the entire media english and tamil went crazy flashing news about this.

Senior BJP leader L K Advani met Tamil filmstar Rajnikanth at the actor’s residence in Chennai, on Wednesday.
BJP sources said both of them discussed the latest political situation in the country.

State BJP president L Ganesan accompanied him, the sources added.

Advani is in Chennai in connection with the release of the Tamil version of his autobiography.

The meeting assumes significance in the wake of the demand by Rajnikanth’s fans asking him to enter politics. Superstar has politely said he is currently concentrating on the mega budget Endhiran The Robot.

However, he had been resisting such demands but recently announced that he would undertake a tour of the state to meet his fans. He had also promised that he would be frequently meeting them.

Rajnikanth’s office was tight lipped about what transpired at his meeting with Advani.

Another BJP leader and a actor-friend of Rajnikanth, Shatrughan Sinha, had recently met him after which he stated that the actor would announce his plans for the future.

After the meeting when superstar came out the press were desperate to know what was this meeting all about, Superstar said "this was just a respectful meeting there was no politics involved in this" with a smile and walked past.

Rajini is a Phenomenon! – Kamal Hassan

Friends
Here are some excerpts of Kamal Hassan’s interview to a movie portal owned by a North Indian Newspaper some time ago in which Kamal says his views on the ‘One and only’ superstar of India.

Over to Kamal..

How many films have you actually done with your ‘onscreen arch rival’ Rajinikanth?

I think…10, most of them were super hits, though we did have failures. We’ve done three films for our mentor K. Balachander. What’s more, I’ve done guest roles in Rajini’s films. I’d do anything he asks me to, no question of refusing him. And please correct your question some thing about our onscreen rivalry... Rajini is always my close friend.

Do the two of you have mutually exclusive fan clubs?

The war between the two fan clubs stopped only about few years ago. We both told them to stop after there were stray incidents of violence on both sides. Considering fans have killed each other for our distinguished predecessors MGR and Shivaji Ganesan our fans would be considered pacifists (laughs). I went ahead and set a new precedent. I turned my fan club into a social service organization.

There’s a marked element of Shivaji Ganesan in your performance as there’s MGR in Rajnikanth?

In fact we both incorporate elements of both the towering personalities. I’ve done what you’d call MGR kind of films. Shivaji Saab felt squeamish about doing out-and-out masala films. Rajni too has changed his image to play the Shivaji kind of roles. In one film he played a character that age from 6 to 60. That way we’ve crisscrossed paths on screen.

What do you think about Rajnikanth as an actor?

When we were still in our 20s I asked him why he has to be so stylish on screen. He told me that’s the secret of his future success. I assured him my style would also be a winner. He turned around to say, ‘Fair enough man. You do your thing and I’ll do my own.’ Rajni is a phenomenon too!

You mean phenomenon no. 2?

No… seriously, both of us were young actors who started from scratch. He was the bus conductor with acting aspirations. I was the clapper boy who got the clap in my very film (Kamal Hassan played a character with venereal disease in his first adult role). We didn’t have fathers to make movies for us. But we had the same godfather K.Balachander. It’s quite strange, but our paths as actors were always intertwined. Initially we were both typecast as villains. I got fed up of doing those and went away to Kerala to do Malayalam films. Then his career as a villain took off, and I returned to Chennai to pursue a career in Tamil cinema. We made our way up together. At the Tenali function Rajni pointed out that though he’s four years my senior I’m his senior professionally and that he would take my advice about doing a film with me, if there’s occasion for us to star together.

Are you keen on doing a film with Rajnikanth?

It depends. He said if we do a film together he won’t direct it. It has to be either me or someone else. It would be quite interesting to do a film with him. At the Thenali silver jubilee function Rajni recalled an incident early in our careers when he was riding pillion on a motorbike with me. He never forgot his past and friends. When I sort of took a skid Rajni asked if I knew how to ride a motorbike. I assured him even If I fell I wouldn’t let him fall. I was so touched when at the Tenali function Rajni said, ‘That’s what happened in our career. He never let me fall. In 1983 when I wanted to leave everything behind it was Kamal who cajoled me back to the material world.’ I guess we’ll do a film together. We’ve been talking about it for five years. We’re worried about the expectations.

Tamil superstar Rajinikanth must enter politics, and he should decide about it now. That message comes from Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi, who formed his own political party this year.

“I think he (Rajinikanth) should have joined politics. I think he should have come (into politics). He has got some much charisma—people expect him,” said Chiranjeevi in an interview to CNN-IBN’s Veeraraghav.

Asked whether he had discussed the issue with Rajinikanth, he said: “Yes, oh yes! Several times—we discussed it. We discussed it many times. He said when I enter 60 years it would be the right time.”

Chiranjeevi wanted the Tamil actor to decide about joining politics now. “Yes. You are right—something like that,” he said when asked if Rajinikanth should make a decision now.

Rajinikanth has refused to accept his fans’ plea to enter politics at least thrice since 1996. Last month, his fans formed a ‘political party’ but he scolded them and warned no one can “force” him to enter politics.

He also warned of legal action against people using his name for political gains.

“While no one can stop me from entering the political arena, nobody can force me to do so as well. Legal action will be initiated against those who use my name for political ends,” the actor said on October in a statement to media organisations.

Chiranjeevi, who for years had been under similar fan pressure, jumped into politics when he formed the Prajarajyam party in Tirupati on August 26.

Chiranjeevi has promised that his party will work for the poor and the landless but is yet to sketch out a clear political ideology.

Superstar pours his heart out to fans !

It was a day to cherish for Rajinikanth fans. Over a thousand of them from 32 districts of Tamilnadu finally had a tête-à-tête with their 'favorite hero' at Sri Raghavendra Kalyana Mandapam in Chennai.

Despite emotions overflowing and tempers flaring at the meeting, a patient Rajinikanth answered all the queries. A majority of the questions literally implored as to 'when and whether' Rajinikanth would make his entry to politics.

An enthusiastic Rajinikanth patiently replied to all the queries besides posing for photographs with his fans.

Fans of Rajinikanth have been urging their hero to enter politics for some time now. They even stuck posters and issued statements urging him to take a plunge into politics. They had wanted a meeting with the 'super star' for a long time now. Eventually the D-day arrived on Monday.

Fans gathered right from the morning to meet the matinee idol. At a dais specially erected at the Kalyana Mandapam, Rajinikanth appeared in a black pyjama kurtha and a huge portrait of Swami Babaji adorned the vicinity.

Fans erupted in cheers and applauded when Rajinikanth said, 'I would never leave my fans. I will enter politics if it is the wish of Almighty'.

Urging his fans to take care of their families first, Rajinikanth answered a whole range of questions ranging from politics to his films.

On being referred to as a confused man by the media following his recent speeches and acts, Rajinikanth said, 'If I think what I do is right, I will never hesitate to do it. People may call me a confused man or a selfish human being. Had I not spoken or reacted in such a way under difficult circumstances, our country would have faced much confusion'.

Queried about his apology to Kannadigas in the Hogenakkal issue, a patient Rajinikanth said, 'it is a cinema affair. Whenever they have any issue with Tamilnadu, they first attack cinema theatres that screen Tamil films in Karnataka. Had I stressed that those denying water to Tamilnadu should be beaten up, the issue would have become very serious. When 'Kuselan' got released, it was bound to face troubles. I decided to seek an apology for the safety and betterment of others'.

When fans queried as to what Rajinikanth had done for them so far, he said, ' after I became an actor, I was keen on doing classic kind of movies. You wanted me to fight on screen, I did. You wanted me to sing and dance, I obliged. You wanted me to combine everything and I am doing it. I think I am blessed to entertain my fans'.

'I am personally doing many welfare things without the knowledge of others. You too should do your bit to society, he urged his fans.

When queried as to why 'Kuselan' bombed at the box office, Rajini said, 'I don't find any mistake of mine as far as 'Kuselan' is concerned. I even wanted to release it on my own. But the film's rights were sold for a hefty sum before I made the move. Where is my mistake in it? And I did not get Rs 25 Crores as my salary for the film.'

DO YOUR DUTY, EXPECT RESULTS WAS THE THEME OF SUPERSTAR FANS MEET.

Superstar meets fans

The anticipated meeting between Rajinikanth and his fans took place as planned earlier at the Ragavendra Thirumana Mandapam at 10 am this morning. The superstar was thrown a volley of questions to which he answered with full zeal. The two prominent questions were: whether he would enter politics and what was the reason behind Kuselan's debacle.

For the first question Rajini said that those who had forayed into politics have been striving to do so since the very early stages. "But I am not trained for it," the star said. Rajini added that he is a staunch believer of fate. "And if fate intends me to enter politics, so be it," he said philosophically.

Reacting to the second question, his answer was: Watch out for Endhiran. It will make heads turn! True Rajini style, this!

Rajnikanth to go on state-wide tour to meet fans

Chennai, Nov 3 (PTI) In what could be seen as a prelude to his possible entry into politics, a demand increasingly being voiced by his fans, superstar Rajnikanth today said he would undertake a state-wide tour to meet them. Meeting his fan club members at Raghavendra Kalyana Mandapam here after a long time, the actor, however, remained non-comittal to a volley of questions about his possible entry into politics, saying, "it all depends on destiny and time.

" Only circumstances would decide the fate of one's success in politics, he said, but did not elaborate. Rajnikanth said he would soon come out with many welfare measures for his fans, besides looking to increase membership of his fan clubs.

"At present, I am totally focussed on my upcoming movie, Endiran (initially Robot).

The whole nation will talk about it once it is released as it is the biggest movie (produced so far)," he said. The multi-million budget film, being directed by "Sivaji-The Boss" fame Shankar and starring Bollywood beauty Aishwarya Rai, is expected to be a sci-fi thriller.

Seeking to clear the air behind his "regret-turned-apology" to Kannada people over some strong remarks on the Hogenakkal issue, Rajnikanth said he had only expressed regret and not an apology.

Superstar's speech at the fast

On a day marked by speeches by almost all leading names of Kollywood, the major demand was for ceasefire followed by peaceful talks. Speaking at the event, Rajinikanth too upheld the common sentiment and reiterated that ceasefire was the only way out. In a very charged speech, he said that the blood of innocent people should never be spilt and a place where

such things happen can never prosper. He added that the atrocities being inflicted on people would haunt the country forever. He pointed out that the war situation in Sri Lanka had been prevailing for over 35 years now. If military mite was the answer to the problem, then the solution should have been reached long back. What these 35 years has shown is that the people who are struggling are not going to give up and that there was something seriously wrong with the way military force was being used in Sri Lanka. He added that the protest was aimed at making the world aware of what really was happening and that the big nations of the world had a responsibility to ensure that such things do not happen.

Earlier, Kamal had said that problems were bound to occur when contentious issues were touched upon and that is what happened in the case of Ameer and Seeman. However, the right side prevailed when both of them walked free to a great welcome. He also said that seeing this as just an Indo-Sri Lanka issue was not enough. There should be no place in the world where innocent people have to struggle for existence.

As expected, the evening had a bit of a political flavor when Vijayakanth and Sarath Kumar took stage. Vijayakanth later spoke to reporters off the dais and said that the TN government was raising this issue at this time in order to cover up for its other inadequacies. Viduthalai Siruthaikal leader Thol Thirumavalavan was another prominent speaker at the event.

The fast came to an end at 4 P.M. after veteran actor S.S. Rajendran handed fruit juice to the participants. The members made a collective donation of Rs. 45 lakhs towards the welfare of the Lankan Tamils. Later, Ajith met the Chief Minister and donated Rs. 5 lakhs towards the relief of the Tamils.
