Why Kuselan didnt fare well in Karnataka? Take a look

Bangalore Police Commissioner Shankar Bidari said more than Rs 6 crore worth of pirated compact discs were seized recently and a large number of them were that of Kuselan, which was released just ten days ago.

On Saturday, Niranjan addressed a press conference at the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce office alleging that pirated discs were easily available in the state which is affecting the business of the film.

Niranjan also said that the family audience have started coming now and the film's collections have remained steady. "I don't say collections have fallen sharply. There may be no houseful shows in some theatres, but now the family audiences are coming in large numbers to see the film.

The theatre owners who have paid hefty advances are clearly demoralised. "I had obtained the release rights of the film by paying a minimum guarantee amount. I am sure to lose forty percent of that amount," says one.

A senior official of the Pyramid Saimira group in Bangalore says that Kuselan has a good story line with emotional content and it is sure to be appreciated in the coming weeks. "We expect a heavy flow of family audience from the second week,' says the official.

According to a trade analyst in Bangalore, Kuselan would have faced no problems if it was purchased at around Rs 1.5 crore. But if you analyse how some of the other big Tamil films fared in Karnataka, there is some consolation.

Vijay's Kuruvi purchased at Rs 1.05 crores was a failure while Ajith's Billa, which was declared as a super hit, was able to do a business of around Rs 1 crore. In contrast Vikram's Bheema at Rs 80 lakhs was a big flop.

So, the only consolation is the fact that Rajni's flop films fare better at the box office than the other top stars' hit films!

Hi friedn,

Rajini's movie is in net in the 2nd day either sivaji or Kuselan. Sivaji even after viewing in net every one is forced to visit theatres to see rajini in thebig screen. But obiously kuselan is not hi whole film, moreover, vasu's vulgar tste with theembarassing nayan and vadivelu scenes have pulled down the feel for the movie/ Moreover greedy producers and saimeera just bought the movie with a heavy price and improper business techniques. Now Ranini is victimised by the blood sucking theatre owners. It is high time Tamil society has to velook in to its stand for honesty and honest business! IT IS EVIDENT tamil inam is lightinh pyre on itws own head by own hands. YES, it is not tamil which is dying slowly but Tamil inam is dying.

Hi, Couldnt agree with you better.
But one thing is for sure we still need a lot of maturity in understanding the movies and concepts. Since lot of rajini fans themselves compared Kuselan with Sivaji which is very unfair.

Hi Jon,
I am no way comparing Rajini's sivaji to Kuselan but the general pull is for Rajini's full time performance with his own feel.
Here still Kuselan is the best for me where ever Rajini ws there, but vasu did araivekkattuthanam with so much vulgar cheap comedy cloned scenes, as a woman i was not comfortable in those scenes. Nayan's song where two kids are shown with a vulgar taste.
These scenes played very heavily on the movies standard, people could compromise with Rajini's whole time presenece as a character.
Here, when Rajini is shown with his normal flow of presence, there should have been strong scenes to project Pasupathy's character, his over all expressions were almost filled with a pathetic look.
Vadivel's recent interview about the snake from a sage's head would have been much better to attract kids rather than his peeping through window where his wife is exercising also guiding a police man to different angles, and vadivelu and Nayantharaa.
Because i am a fan of Rajini why you know, for decent less prominent double meaning and minimised glamour. Almost nil vugar jokes.
This would be feel for all who were in mid 30's and above as they do have more maturity and responsible with family kids.

Hi, My entire family had the same opinion about vulgar scenes. They said we didnt expect this from Rajini film since his movies are complete family entertainers. P.Vasu could have avoided these scenes and probably inlcuded some meaningful scenes. My feeling is Vasu wasnt sure about the outcome of the movie hence inserted these stupid scenes. By the way thanks for sharing your comments here, and pls continue to do so. Also mention your name, even alias name will do if your not comfortable sharing your real name. Thanks.
